Toronto, ON – April 18, 2019 – Toronto’s own Taylor Knox returns with his sophomore LP Here Tonight set for release on June 7 via Cadence Recordings. A central figure within Toronto’s expansive music scene-a friend and collaborator with almost everyone working today-Knox brought on friends and musicians for Here Tonight including Peter Dreimanis from July Talk to co-write and produce, “Everybody Knows” which also features Dreimanis, and Leah Fay on vocals. Check out the video for the single here. Taylor on working with Peter Dreimanis and Leah Fay from July Talk:
Over the past few years I’ve become friends with Pete and Leah from July Talk, and when I first had the idea for this song, it kind of reminded me of their vibe so I thought it would be a fun opportunity to collaborate.
Our processes in the studio are similar – we all bring high energy and a willingness to try new things and experiment. One thing I love about Pete and Leah’s songs is that they always create these amazing cinematic moods with their band July Talk. It was fun to see how Pete added a bunch of layers of guitars and synths to build up the atmospheric qualities and create a mysterious vibe with “Everybody Knows”.
Taylor on the video:
When Director Andy Keen pitched this concept for the video, I thought it was so fun because I’ve often thought about how we all have personas we present to the world. It’s not just something performers or artists do, but we all perform everyday on in our lives… especially in the age of social media. When creating my music, I try to explore different aspects of myself, in order to better understand the world around me.
Taylor’s debut full-length Love (2017), received critical acclaim, radio play with singles “The Stars” and “Running Into Love, ” and also had him touring the entire country alongside The Beaches. Here Tonight sees Knox continue his power pop arc; crunchy, loud guitars mixed with powerful drums and catchy, anthemic hooks. Yet, Knox’s influences are less retrograde in rock music, and more tuned into the pop zeitgeist, seeking inspiration on production and songwriting from The Weeknd, SZA, and even Prince.
Knox began working on Here Tonight almost immediately after Love. He worked with Rob Schnapf (Foo Fighters, Dilly Dally, Kurt Vile) in Los Angeles at Mant Studios and Josh Korody at Candle Recording in Toronto. The album was mastered by Big Bass Brian (Dr. Dre, Blink 182, Nicki Minaj) in Los Angeles. Pre-orders available here.
Taylor will be doing a special hometown album release show on June 6 at Adelaide Hall. Tickets available here.
