(Toronto, ON – April 10, 2019) – Amyl and The Sniffers have announced the details of their self-titled debut album, alongside a new track and video for the single “Got You.” Artwork and track listing for the album can be found below. Amyl and The Sniffers will arrive on May 24th via ATO (North America), Rough Trade (UK/Europe) and Flightless Records (Australia & New Zealand). Pre-order for the record is now available HERE. FADER premiered the new clip today, saying “the Australian band recall the heady days of punk: spiky, wild, provocative, and a little dangerous with a fierce live reputation.”
Singer Amy Taylor explains of the song, “‘Got You’ is about that feeling you get when you first start seeing someone and you’re excited to see them, no matter what shit they got. You just see them at the pub and it feels like the most exciting thing in the world, like you’re so lucky they’re even there. It’s definitely one of the “sweetest” songs on the album, and less punky. It was kind of inspired by Split Enz.”
She explains of the wild video which accompanies the track, “We worked with Melbourne director Triana Hernandez for the video and we decided to make it less like a love song and more cheeky. We wanted to play with the power dynamics a bit and turn ‘I got you’ into ‘I literally own you’, just to make it a bit more dark. It’s obviously not a healthy relationship but that kind of thing is easy to slip into, too.”
Amyl and The Sniffers are Amy Taylor (vocals), Gus Romer (bass) Bryce Wilson (drums) and Declan Martens. The ferocious foursome took this year’s SXSW by storm, receiving gushing reviews from Rolling Stone, Austin Chronicle, NME, Austin-American Statesman,BrooklynVegan, DIY and more. The band is currently in the midst of a UK and European tour, and will return to North America in July for another headline run including an appearance at Burger Boogaloo and headline shows in Toronto and Montreal in July!
Amyl and The Sniffers formed in Melbourne, Australia in early 2016 and wrote, self-recorded and released their debut EP, Giddy Up, all in a span of twelve hours.
Their second EP, Big Attractions, was released in February 2017 then re-released as a 12″ double EP with Giddy Up, through Homeless Records in Australia and Damaged Goods in the UK. The band made their international debut at The Great Escape festival in May followed by sold out shows in London, before flying out to the Los Angeles to join King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard on a 22-date tour of the United States. Return trips to both the UK and US followed later in the year, where the band played to packed houses and rave festival reviews.
Already signed to Flightless Records for Australia and New Zealand, the band capped off a monster year by signing with ATO Records for North America and Rough Trade Records for the rest of the world. They were also nominated as Best New Act at the Q Awards and won the $30,000 Levis Prize Amyl and The Sniffers Tour Dates
